1 | Is this no more than a note Paul | 1 Tim 5:23 | kayle | 169358
This is an interesting verse and brings some interesting conversations with it. But this is a note from Paul to Timothy. water was not purified at this time in history and wine or the alchol in it is used to kill bacteria and germs. I think it is possible that Paul has simply heard that Timothy is is having digestive prolems and given the nature of their relationship knows that he might need a little wine in his water to make the digestive issues go away. It might be a stretch to turn this into a biblical reason to drink.
2 | Is this no more than a note Paul | 1 Tim 5:23 | kalos | 169360
Kayle: Yours is an interesting observation. Yet, I caution you, 1 Timothy 5:23 is neither the only nor the first place in the Bible where the use of alcohol is mentioned. Before coming to any hard and fast conclusions, one would do well to do a little research and see what the rest of the Bible says about the use and abuse of alcohol. Grace to you, Kalos |
