Is there any scripture that you know of that would determine if a "pastor" of a church should or should not hold down a regular job? or should his being a "pastor" be his full time profession. God bless and thanks :) Dan |

I think we should look to Jesus. He is The pastor. A pastor is a sheperd of people and a sheperd gives his life for the people (John 10:15). Therefore to me a pastor is not determined by external signs like a job or an occupation. being a pastor is a question of heart. Will you be a good pastor for your wife tomorrow ? Your can his husband but being his shpeperd requires your heart. in other terms, you can have an official position eg husband and not take care of your wife. The full time profession in the church of Jesus is to love honestly and deeply especially when it is painful to love. Jesus was not paid by any institution. He did not eiher have a "job" of pastor but he definetly took care of people (Mat 14:14). Therefore to me being paid or not, holding a regular job or not is not a matter perse. It is all a question of heart, what you want to achieve in life and where you are going to be a light for this suffering world. Yes to me you can be a pastor and a kid doctor for instance. On the contrary, I think it would help the pastor be close to the needs and the real life of people and not only be in a scecluded "religious" life. I do not think it was the kind of life Jesus was having either. In the gospels, you see Jesus was a pastor and a doctor (Mat 4:23). Did he get paid ? We do not know. My idea is that he mus have gotten a chicken or two as a present for his love... Take care. JP |
