As many, if not all of you, are aware there is a very large and dangerous storm approaching the gulf states. I live in Florida and know the effects first hand of a hurricane. I lived through three of them last year. It was not exactly fun. Hurricane Katrina is going to be much worse, even catastrophic. This is going to effect everyone as gas prices rise due to halted production in the gulf. The psychological toll on those in the path is and will be great. New Orleans could be under water for weeks. I would ask that everyone lift up a prayer or two on behalf of those in LA, MS, AL and even the FL panhandle. Also, begin to consider even now the financial help you can offer for their relief after tomorrow. Trust me...the need will be humongous. Many in Florida are still recovering from last year's hurricanes. I can only imagine what Louisiana and Mississippi will be like after tomorrow. 1 John 3:17 But whoever has the world's goods, and sees his brother in need and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him? Thanks, Bows44 |

Bows, thank you for posting a very timely prayer request. The threat of catastrophic damage from Hurricane Katrina is very real, very imminent, and very grave. Events such as this, devastating though they are, can and indeed should remind us of our marked limitations and our dependence on God. Henley in "Invictus" said, "I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul." I know of no other lines of poetry in the English language that are more wrong than these. We are masters of nothing, and in no wise are we captains of our soul. We depend on God for the next breath. ...... But let's all of us who are followers of Christ lift up our voices in prayer this evening for the people in New Orleans and surrounding areas. Many of the residents have fled for safer ground, but many have not been able to evacuate because they are too poor, too old, or too sick. Let's pray especially for this group who have been left behind to weather the storm as best they can, and pray also that those who have fled may have a home to return to after the storm has passed. Thanks for caring, Bows, and thanks also for reminding Christian readers of this Forum to pray and to serve by sharing their basket of bread and fish with the needy. God bless you, and God bless all your neighbors on the Gulf Coast this evening as they wait out this storm. --Hank | ||||||
