I also had a lot of questions regarding all of these "women in church/ministry" questions. The best I can do is recommend a wonderful new book that has helped me a lot and answers many of the above questions. "10 Lies the Church Tells Women: How the Bible has been misused to keep women in spiritual bondage", by J. Lee Grady, ordained minister, and editor of Charisma magazine. You can access a summary at: http://cbw.strang.com/catalog/7379.htm. Keep an open mind and spirit and ask the Holy Spirit to teach and show you all truth. I hope and pray ya'll are blessed as I was.

Must reading -- a great response to Evangelical Feminism is "Recovering Biblical Manhood and Womanhood" by John Piper and Wayne Grudem. By the way what do you think the text 1 Tim 2:12 means? |

What do I think 1 Tim 2:12 means? I think it must mean what it says, that a woman is not allowed "to teach or exercise authority over a man." But is she forbidden to teach other women and children? That is not what the text SAYS. We know what the Bible MEANS by what it SAYS.

Yes it must mean just that! There are some who think that it is not for today and that it was Paul's own prejudice for his day only. This is pure speculation and it sounds like a desparate appeal to do what many others have done to dump what the Bible teaches by relegating it to another era -- saying it is out of date. This is impossible to do to this text because Paul links the disqualification to the creation order. For example if Eve was created first then she would have been the one who God gave headship to. It would have been her who God called out to asking where is your husband. It would have been Adam who would have been deceived in this scenario and not Eve. But this is not the Biblical scenario, and do we notice who God hold responsible? It was not Eve who Paul describes in Romans 5 as the federal head of sin even though she was the one who was deceived, God holds Adam responsible -- this is headship right from the beginning. |
