1 | What about the King James Only movement? | 1 Thess 5:21 | kalos | 135008
What about the King James Only movement? 'King James Only' literature "non-Christian and illogical" [The following is quoted from The World English Bible (WEB) FAQ.] 'May God open their eyes and give them a sound understanding. 'If you prefer the King James Version of the Holy Bible, then, by all means, read it and do what it teaches. I think that the KJV was a wonderful Contemporary English translation of the Holy Bible when it came out. It has been mightily used by God and has had (and continues to have) a profoundly good impact. Unfortunately, the evolution of the English language continually erodes its value as time goes on. It is now outsold by the excellent New International Version, for many good reasons. 'I guess that there are a few people that seem to believe that the KJV is more accurate than the original Hebrew and Greek of the Holy Bible, and that all the other versions are tainted with heresy and conspiracy. I’ve read some of their literature. I found it to be some of the most non-Christian and illogical literature that I have endured, thus further proving the claim that the KJV is the only valid Bible to be wrong, at least in my mind. I guess I’ve now put myself on record as being a heretic in their eyes, but I must follow God, rather than men.' ____________________ http://ebible.org/bible/web/webfaq.htm#KJVOnly 1th521 |

Kalos - Often I've searched for valid reasons to accept the legitimacy of adherence only to the King James Bible and have found but one, and that one would be that should anyone find himself in the unlikely circumstance of being marooned on a desert island or trapped in an Afgan cave with only the King James Bible in his possession, he would be wholly justified in using it as his only link to Holy Writ. All other arguments that have been advanced by King James Onlyists are inadequate of proof and common sense. ....... Why, I wonder, could it not be argued with the same degree of fervor and with a like authenticity that other translations into languages besides English are tainted by New Age heresy unless they too were translated no later than 1611? This date, 1611, appears to be the deadline at which God ceased to inspire translations. I'll post biblical proof of this as soon as it can be located :-) You've done an excellent and scholarly job in your several posts in debunking the KJV Onlyism nonsense and thus have performed a valuable service to readers of this Forum. --Hank

Hank: I've even spoken to people who believed that when the Bible is translated into non-English languages, it should be translated directly from the King James Version and NOT the Hebrew and Greek texts. --Kalos |

Sure, why not? Why settle for the musty old Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek manuscripts when you can have the real thing, the authorized, inspired KJV! Makes perfect sense to me. :-) --Hank
