If kainon mean unworn, why Eph 4:24 use the Greek word kainon for new (Man) but Col 3:10 use Greek word neon for new self?
2 | Kainos Vs Neos | Col 3:10 | Morant61 | 107524
Greetings Ivory313! I just preached on Eph. 4:24 yesterday! :-) The basic distinction between these two adjective is as follows. 'Neos' refers to chronological age. It is used of things which are new in time or age. 'Kainos' refers to quality. Something can be 'kainos' and still be chronologically old. According to Trench, both of these meanings are intended in Eph. 4:24 and Col. 3:10. In Eph. 4:24, Paul is focusing upon the qualitative differences between the 'old man' and the 'new man'. While in Col. 3:10, Paul is focusing upon the chronological 'newness' of the 'new man'. In this case, the 'new man' is both chronologically new and qualitatively new at the same time. I hope this helps! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
