1 | firstborn: prototokos | Col 1:15 | StJake | 95952
The term "firstborn" is translated from the greek term "prototokos"- which does not mean here "created first", or "born first in time". It's the same word that Paul uses when he says in 1Tim 1:15, "...to save sinners; of whom I am chief". That term 'chief' is translated from the same word 'prototokos', so unless you believe that Paul was the first person to have ever sinned, don't interpret this passage to mean that Jesus was the 'first' creation of God. It means here to be first in rank, or highest in order: as in the King of Kings, and the Lord of Lords, by whom and for whom all things are made (Col 1:16).

Greetings STJake! I fully agree with your main point. However, you are incorrect about the same word being used in 1 Tim. 1:15. The word used there is 'protos', not 'prototokos'. However, your point is accurate. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

3 | firstborn: prototokos | Col 1:15 | StJake | 95957
I checked, and you are correct, and I am definitely mistaken. I am *dreadfully sorry*. I did a word study on prototokos before, and i was recalling what I had learned when I made the comment. I obviously was looking at "protos" as a root of prototokos, then gotten confused and had mistakenly thought that cheif was prototokos instead of protos. I am not infallible, and was mistaken, not intentionally misleading anyone Thank you SO MUCH for your correction. All apologies in Christ- Jake
