1 | How Big is God? | Phil 4:19 | Morant61 | 207996
Greetings All! The series of posts about lying got me to thinking about other situational ethics questions I have heard over the years. How about stealing to feed one's family? Of course, the assumption is always made that there is no possible way to feed one's family other than stealing. My God is so much bigger than that! Here is a great story that illustrates God's power to meet all (not just some) of our needs. ************* Things looked bleak for the children of George Muller's orphanage at Ashley Downs in England. It was time for breakfast, and there was no food. A small girl whose father was a close friend of Muller was visiting in the home. Muller took her hand and said, "Come and see what our Father will do." In the dining room, long tables were set with empty plates and empty mugs. Not only was there no food in the kitchen, but there was no money in the home's account. Muller prayed, "Dear Father, we thank Thee for what Thou art going to give us to eat." Immediately, they heard a knock at the door. When they opened it, there stood the local baker. "Mr. Muller," he said, "I couldn't sleep last night. Somehow I felt you had no bread for breakfast, so I got up at 2 o'clock and baked fresh bread. Here it is." Muller thanked him and gave praise to God. Soon, a second knock was heard. It was the milkman. His cart had broken down in front of the orphanage. He said he would like to give the children the milk so he could empty the cart and repair it. ****************** If only Muller had known that he should have stolen what he needed, rather than trusting in God to meet his needs! :-( Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

2 | How Big is God? | Phil 4:19 | azurelaw | 207998
Dear Brother Tim, Let me echo with you two testimonies (just a few of the many) recorded in the book "Queen of the Dark Chamber":- It was the 2nd Word War when the Japanese army took over Nanjing. The soldier spared no young women for their lustful desire whomever they found. In a village, old Mrs. Wong and her family were living in the 2nd house in a row of 3. One day, a Japanese soldier got to the village in search of his target. Those young women were hiding and leaving those senior praying outside. The Japanese soldier finished his search in the 1st house and was on his way approaching the 2nd one where the women were, there, jumped out a barking dog against him; thus distracted his search and he went straight to the 3rd house. Another old woman, Mrs. Chan, did not have money for her family to escape from Nanjing; thus were forced to stay where they were. Sadly that several Japanese got to their house and killed all the men leaving the old women. The women were too frightened that they jumped into a well for ending their lives. While they were struggling under the well, someone approached the opening and lowered down a rope to safe them. The one who saved them was a Japanese soldier - a christian. **** God is at all sovereign. My heart sank when I saw walkforchrist's note that if his lying could save thousand, he would lie despite it is sin. Oh my! Our effort is nothing if it is not God at work. Shalom Azure |

Greetings Azure! It is sad that so many seem to have so little faith in God. Thanks for sharing your illustration! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

5 | How Big is God? | Phil 4:19 | Morant61 | 208025
Greetings Val! Dear sister, I am not berating anyone. The general theme of many of these posts on this topic has been that sometimes God will not deliver; therefore, we must lie to protect the innocent. I have pointed out Scripture after Scripture which clearly states that it is a sin to lie. I have pointed out Scripture after Scripture that affirms that God is all powerful and all knowing. Yet, for some unexplainable reason, many are still insisting that sometimes we might have to lie because God won't deliver us otherwise. Quite simply dear sister, this is not a question of differing views, but of obedience to the clear commands of Scripture. There are certainly times when believers may differ on certain issues in the light of seemingly conflicting Scriptures. But, this is not one of those cases. You have not produced one Scripture that says it is okay to lie, but have only expressed your opinion that it is okay to break God's commands if one has a good enough motive. It is a slippery slope to start making exceptions to God's commands. We either obey Him or we don't! Frankly, I never expected such a strong reaction to God's command from Christians on a Bible Study Forum. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

6 | How Big is God? | Phil 4:19 | Val | 208031
Yes I provided a complete passage in Ecclesiates. Chapter 3 - A time for Everything. You may also search the posts regarding "War". There are scriptures references there. When you say I have little faith, that is offensive. What kind of a reaction would you give to someone who told you that? I never said it was ok to lie. I said there are violent crime situations where I would lie if it was for a greater good. Please stop. |
