1 | How could Rahab be mother of Boaz? | Num 6:23 | RogerB | 140292
In Matthew 1:5, Rahab is listed as the mother of Boaz. This forum has stated that this was the same Rahab as in Joshua 3. However, is there not a significant timeline between when Joshua crossed the Jordan river and when Solomon was born. My time estimate is that this time gap is something on the order of 200-300 years. How could this have been possible? Is this the only place in the bible that lists this feature about Rahab?

It is worse than you think. Amminadab was the father-in-law to Aaron and father to Nashon, who was the head of the tribe of Judah during the 40 years of wandering, and so died in the desert. There is at least 400 years covered by Salmon, Boaz, and Obed. This is an example of telescoping geneologies. This was standard practice at the time. Father in this context meant ancestor (through the male line.) They kept more complete lines elsewhere, and only used the shorthand here. Later, the Jews lost parts of the longhand accounts.
