1 | "Verses (equals) no cussing" please? | Eph 4:29 | 2Tim215 | 180414 | ||
I have just recently stopped cussing; I finally figured out how totally stupid and meaningless it is. A friend of mine has started cussing and no matter what I tell him, he won't believe me and STOP. Any recommendations, bible verses, etc to help me out would be awesome. thanks. |

Hi, Tim... You'll find that the control of the tongue is quite a challenge. See James 3. God has given us His Word to fill our our minds and mouths (Joshua 1:8). We also know that He will judge every idle word (Matthew 12:36). Frankly, if we really believe that God is witness to our every act, how can we be careless about what we say? In addition, if our words and deeds look more like the lost than the saved, is that not worrisome about where we stand in relation to Him (1 Corinthians 11:31). "Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving. For you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure, or who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not associate with them; for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them." (Ephesians 5:4-11 ESV) God bless you in your efforts to adopt the virtues and eliminate the vices as He requires of His own. Fortunately, God has fully equipped us to this end! (2 Peter 1:3-4). In Him, Doc |
