dear bro raymond, The position you asserted ( I believe) was that Apostolic Succession is in order today. I disagree and do not think you've provided anything concrete from scripture to establish your position. Those who are "apostles" today are the ones I was referring to. 1. This is a public Forum (with guidelines), so expect that all of our views would be open to scrutiny (mine included); 2. Since you are the one making the assertion (or claim), the burden of proof is on you to establish it's validity; As I see it, the qualification for an apostle is one who was with the Lord and/or witnessed His resurrection (Acts 1:22). Paul saw the Lord and spent time with Him (1 Cor. 15:8, Gal. 1:12, 15-16). I trust that this will help to establish a fruitful dialog:-) BradK |

Dear Brother Brad, Good points. Thank you, as always, for your great posts! There are some that see the fellow named in Acts 1:23 as Barnabas. I'm not sure I see how that squares with Acts 15:22, but I'm given to understand there are some traditional and textual reasons to accept it. Just because it triggered neurons: There's another kind of successionism. Some Baptists hold to something called "Baptist Successionism." It's a perspective that there is this continuous chain of churches that have held the same doctrine as Baptists all the way back to the time of Christ. I don't hold much truck with the theory. Sounds like an idea rooted in greater hubris than history. But there are a rather wide variety of Baptists that claim it is so. Just thought that bit of trivia might be interesting. In Him, Doc |
