1 | Translation of the Greek word "aion" | Eph 3:9 | Searcher56 | 214811
God's day to you, Jubalee, Tim is the expert around these parts. Know that Greek is very precise, and English is horrid. Nonetheless, the translators try their best, so that we understand. Let me give you what I think. Before Genesis 1:1 "in the begining" there was no time. 2 Peter 3:8 says "with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day". I believe that when there is a new heaven and earth (Rev 21:1), there will be no more time since there is no need of the sun or of the moon to shine (vs 23). So when we deal with "aion" - it is some period of time. Some have ended like the first two of the verses you cited. The third may end in Rev 21 ... and if it continues beyond time won't exist, so will technically will end timewise. Searcher |

2 | Translation of the Greek word "aion" | Eph 3:9 | MJH | 214817
Searcher56, You said, "when there is a new heaven and earth (Rev 21:1), there will be no more time since there is no need of the sun or of the moon to shine" From a purely philosophical perspective, it is not possible to have matter (flesh and blood, soil and water, etc.) without the existence of time. If you have any "matter" you must also have "time." Logically it's impossible for matter to exist without time. It's also true that you can not have time apart from matter, but that is much more difficult to grasp and this isn't the place for that kind of discussion I'm guessing. MJH |
