1 | Nothing but the Blood of Jesus | Eph 2:13 | meta | 234902
Hi Doc, Please forgive me. I do believe it is beneficial that you mentioned that it was evangelicals in light of the fact that what they were deviating from was one of the basic principles of evangelicalism. In this context it only makes sense to make that reference. I was reacting to something that I do see so often. One group pointing at another rather than lifting up Christ. This is definitely not what you were doing and my reaction was unwarranted. Had I taken time to really pay attention to your first reply I would have realised that. I regret that I wasted your time with this nonsense. Thank you for your faithfulness. In Him Meta |

2 | Nothing but the Blood of Jesus | Eph 2:13 | DocTrinsograce | 234939
Hi, Meta... No apology is necessary. Labels are wonderful things; after all, God invented them (Genesis 1:5)! Our attitude toward a critique of where we stand reveals something about ourselves (Proverbs 9:8). We want to use sound rhetoric and the proper handling of the Scriptures for the purposes that Christ has intended – see that in Ephesians 4:11-14? Thus, we always render up our doctrines for the examination of others, and examine in the light of the Word the teaching of others. I remember asking one of my professors about about how to rightly pay attention to a teacher, even though they had some obvious flaws. He said, “We listen carefully to what a teacher has to say, weighing it against Scriptures. We keep that which we find to be true, and we set aside that which we find to be wanting. Oh... and, by the way, you should be doing exactly that with my teaching, too!” :-) What wonderful gifts our Lord has given us (Ephesians 4:11)... and so much available to us in this electronic age! By the way, I will post the second part of Dr. Dever's comments concerning this question of Atonement. I think you will find it helpful. In Him, Doc |
