Hi my question today comes from "Galatians 5". It talks abou the "law", does this mean the ten commandments? So does it say that we should not follow the law, but follow Christ? But isn't Christ and the law the same and can't we follow both? IF that's what it's talking about? Thank You. |

Hi Jason, Remember Galatians 5:1, "It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery." The purpose of the law, "...is to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith".(Gal. 3:24) The "Law" shows us our sinfulness. Once we have come to Christ, the law has done its' work. Gal. 3:25 tells us, " But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor." (the law) The goal of the Christian life is not to keep the law ( we can't), but rather to yield to the life of Christ in us! Simply put, the Christian life is Christ (Col. 3:1-4)living in and through us. It is not trying to adhere to and keep the 10 Commandments. I think one of the most profound truths in the NT is found in Gal. 2:20, "I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me." Meditate on this for a while and see if this truth doesn't set you free! Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |
