Hi, okay, I've been thinking abou this all day, and it's about Faith. I want to see if people can understand where I'm coming from, or correct me if I'm wrong. But as I'm understanding that faith is something that "YOU" believe in right? Not something your friend believes in that you want to believe, just because your friend does. Faith requires "YOUR" belief not anything else, is that correct? So that is why others can't save you, only you can be saved if you believe in Jesus Christ. Because everybody is a sinner and they cannot save you, no matter how much we might not want to hear that truth, but it's only through us and Jesus we can be saved with our belief. If someone could converse that with me in there own opinion and belief, and please don't post any like biblical passages, unless it has to do with faith and what it means. So I just kind of want your belief in this matter. Thanks for your time. Jason |

Dear Jay, I sure appreciate your persisting questions. I hope you keep at it, too! I'll discuss faith with you. The kind of faith you are talking about is most frequently called "saving faith." (When I write in this post and simply faith, read it as saving faith.) You are correct that it is very subjective. By that, I mean that it occurs entirely within the believer. Faith is a gift of grace by God by which a child God is enabled to believe to the saving of his soul. It is a work by the Holy Spirit in a believers heart. Under normal circumstances, it is accomplished through the Word of God. Even though this kind of faith is fully sufficient to the salvation of the believer, it is still possible for it to be increased by God through various ways that He has established. It is by faith that a believer is able to believe everything that the Bible is the authoritative, revealed Word of God. A Christians, through faith, recognizes that the Word is utterly unique. Although he may not be able to clearly express it at first, he begins to understand something of the attributes of God, the work of Christ, and the power of the Holy Spirit. Consequently, the believer is able to put his trust entirely in the truth of God. He accepts, receives, and rests in the work of Christ alone for eternal life, and for obedience to His commands. This, in general, is my understanding of saving faith as it is explained in the Scriptures. Of course, there's a lot more that could be said! In Him, Doc PS Although you asked that Bible references be kept to a minimum... however... 2 Corinthians 4:13; Ephesians 2:8; Romans 10:14, 17; Luke 17:5; 1 Peter 2:2; Acts 20:32; 24:14; 15:11; 16:31; Psalms 27:7-10; Psalms 119:72; 2 Timothy 1:12; John 14:14; Isaiah 66:2; Hebrews 11:13; John 1:12; Galatians 2:20. |

Hi Doc, Hi Jay, Hey Doc, good comments! I would like to add to it one thing, that we know faith in that it causes us to be different than we were before. If there is no change in us, in our thoughts, and behaviors, there is no faith. (only one ref: James 2:16-24) Love in Christ, Mark |

Dear Brother Mark, Very well said... and very important! I was actually thinking that when I wrote about obedience. However, as usual, I didn't express myself very clearly. But that's okay because you have said it so very well! Saving faith always results in a changed life! Thank you again. In Him, Doc |
