Hi studies, Paul pretty much sets this up for us in vv 1-3 v1 You foolish Galatians, who has bewitched you, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified? v2 This is the only thing I want to find out from you: did you receive the Spirit by the works of the Law, or by hearing with faith? v3 Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh? In other words they were trying to go beyond what they had been given to Salvation by adding the law back into the works of salvation that, had been done by Christ and Christ alone on the Cross. The law curses everyone; for no one could keep it but Christ, but He became cursed for us and hung on the cross for us and our sin in our failure to keep the law. He is the ONLY one to keep the law, and it is futile to think otherwise, or try to go beyond what we received by faith [i.e.-Salvation from hell by and through Christ's sacrifice on the cross] to gain favor or salvation from God. Paul is telling them if they want to try to keep the law, they are in deep trouble, because none can and none ever did but Christ. "Cursed is everyone who does not continue in "ALL" things which are written in the book of the law" [emphasis in "CAPS" is mine] I pray this helps God bless John |

I think what you might want to study a topic called syncretism. Syncretism is what some of the people in Paul's time wanted to do. They wanted to harmonize Judaism and Christianity. Thus you see Paul's teaching in Galatians. It is a hard topic and I have difficulty with it myself. It takes studing the different books of the bible. I learn something more about the law which was associated with works and grace which is in Christ alone. Now the law is not the problem. The problem was and has always been sin. The law is good. Obeying the law is good. People in the NT were trying to combine the law and grace, Judaism and Christianity. Does that make sense? Read the book of Hebrews and the book of Leviticus. Hebrews explains how Christ fulfilled the requirements of the law. Blessings, Val

Thank you you have hit the problem dead center. I was caught up in how Jesus came not to destroy the law but to fullfill it. I assumed that to sin was to violate the law or God's will. I wnated to know God's will I needed to know the law.I then assumed if I started learning the law and its application I would learn to stop sining problem solved. I understand the sabbath is to be kept holy. I got the list of pohibited tasks from a book by Rabi Aaron Perry. I need to understand how you would be eexpected to keep the sabbath holy. I do understand Jesus was Lord of the Sabbath. I know acts of mercy are aloud. Is there any further enlightenment you have.

The Sabbath is not something that is talked about in the churches I have attended. Perhaps someone else could help you with that. Doc is Jewish. He might give you some insight. I think if you come to Jesus by seeking Him and believing what He did for us you will see the gospel. Read Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. The way we approach God is different now as the book of Hebrews will tell you. Love God and keep His commandments. Continue your prayer and bible readings and good deeds would be my advice to anyone. I am not sure I answered your question as you would like. Maybe some of the other forum members can aid you. Blessings, Val
