1 | can she be baptized? | 2 Cor 6:1 | brother ray | 196968
Recently I was asked if a lady who is living in common law marriage with three kids from that very same man, who does not want to marry and is currently in jail can be baptized? I (don't know if this is appropriate) believe she can. salvation is an individual thing. though she may be living in sin, she has every right to ask God for forgiveness and she will be forgiven. the problem here is not hers, but rather her situation. why should she be held accountable for something which is wrong and then in trying to rectify her problem before the Lord, her common law husband refuses. is she not entitled to repentence and thus salvation thru grace? are we not all sinners (Ro.3:23)please someone tell me different, am i of base?
2 | can she be baptized? | 2 Cor 6:1 | Val | 196969
Baptism is a symbol of her identification with Christ. If her common law husband did marry her, she would be bound to an unbeliever. Something that is advised against in the scriptures. Not knowing if she understands what salvation is it would be hard to support your or her decision to go through water baptism. It sounds like she needs to get away from this man who is holding her back spiritually. She has more problems than baptism. 2 Cor 6:14 Do not be bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness? |
