I have a friend who asked me for a Biblical basis for Christians to only date other believers, does anyone know other verses that could apply besides this one?
2 | Biblical basis for Christian dating | 2 Cor 6:14 | Makarios | 210370
Greetings Live4jc316! Paul no doubt meant for believers to have long lasting and meaningful relationships with those who are believers (1 Corinthians 5:9). Christians are held to a higher standard (1 Cor. 6:6) so that we should not be 'partakers' with the 'sons of disobedience' (Eph. 5:7,11). For "if we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth" (1 John 1:6). If a Christian dates someone who is not a Christian, then lines of ethics and boundaries are likely to be crossed because the other person does not share the same convictions, world/life view, and priorities that the Christian does (or should). For instance, it is much more difficult for a non Christian to adhere to the conviction of not having sex before marriage, while the Bible teaches chastity (Hebrews 13:4). It is so much better for your life partner, your "soul-mate", if you will, to be a fellow Christian so that person can help to encourage you in your Christian walk rather than have someone who is that close to you be a stumbling block for your faith and eventually lead you astray. Blessings to you, Makarios |
