3 | One Scripture or none? | 2 Cor 13:1 | Hank | 92179
Asis, the splintered church is ample evidence that ALL doctrine is important. True biblical doctrine is important. It unifies and edifies. And false unbiblical doctrine is important as well, and must not be discounted. It has power to divide and deceive. It must be reckoned with in the light of Scripture, exposed for what it is, and cast away as worthless chaff. --Hank
4 | One Scripture or none? | 2 Cor 13:1 | Asis | 92526
Hank, how is the "splintered church" a thing that makes all doctrine important. How did the church get splintered? Who splintered it? Did Christ? I would think that Christ wants a unified church. It seems to me that we need to look at all scripture and not just that which supports our beliefs. When we look at scripture in this way we are saying, "We have it right. You are wrong." Who are we to say such a thing. Did we instruct God? Do we have a complete understanding of all that He has put in the scriptures. Are all the mysteries revealed to us? Are you saying that unless we all subscribe to the "The Baptist Faith and Message" (this is a metaphor for all demoninational doctrine) we have it wrong? I guess that must be why we are a splintered church. Have we stopped being teachable. Do we have an attitude of knowing more than the teacher. That is what needs to be exposed for what it is, and cast away as worthless chaff. -- Asis
5 | One Scripture or none? | 2 Cor 13:1 | Hank | 92547
Asis, you challenge my statement that all doctrine is important, although I thought I made myself clear by stating my reasons why I hold this postion, but apparently not. Doctrinal systems do not have to be right to be important. Would you not agree that the teachings of the cults are important, for they deceive millions? Is the theory of evolution important? Is the gay agenda important? Is Communism important? Was Hitler's doctrine of the super race important? A thing does not have to be right or scriptural to be important. False doctrine is important enough to deceive millions and to lead people to hell. --Hank
