I am in a situation where I need some spiritual advice. First of all, my husband is a very controlling person. He has been saved but has backslided. I, on the other hand, have been saved and am trying to live right. The problem I am having is this. I moved away from all my family to be with him to help take care of his aging parents. I am very depressed and homesick all the time and it is causing health problems for me and I want to go back home but I know that it is wrong to leave your spouse. So my question is this. Is there circumstances where God will allow you to leave and forgive you for it? Please help with this. I don't know how much longer I can go through this. | ||||||

Dear rrfsmith, The forum is not really designed to be a place to obtain counsel. I'd urge you to get the advice of your pastor and elders in this area. In the mean time, God is Sovereign. He has placed your husband in authority over you. Since God does not make mistakes, nor is He shortsighted, nor is He weak, you can have confidence that He is working things out for the good of both of you. You will be able to demonstrate the work of God in your life by living through this situation in the grace that God affords. God can and will change the heart of your husband, even to the point of having him decide it is time to move nearer your own family, if that is His will. Remember, we honor those in authority over us not because they deserve it, but because that is where God has placed them. Likewise, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by the conduct of their wives-- when they see your respectful and pure conduct. Do not let your adorning be external--the braiding of hair, the wearing of gold, or the putting on of clothing-- but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious. For this is how the holy women who hoped in God used to adorn themselves, by submitting to their husbands, as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord. And you are her children, if you do good and do not fear anything that is frightening. (1 Peter 3:1-6) Trust in the Sovereignty of God and serve Him right where you are in the way He would have you serve Him! In Him, Doc PS One man's sinfulness never justifies more sin. We'll be praying for you. |
