1 | Beleiving and Knowing | 1 Cor 1:21 | NightJay0044 | 161136 | ||
Hi, my question today is: What is the difference between knowing and beleiving? Can some one simply explain that to me so an ant could understand it if he had the ears to listen to our words? Thank You. |

Greetings NightJay! Scripture doesn't really make a distinction between the two terms. They occur together in the New Testament 7 times. Here are the verses in the NIV: John 2:24 - "But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, for he knew all men." (Entrust is the Greek word for 'believe'). John 4:53 - "Then the father realized that this was the exact time at which Jesus had said to him, ‘‘Your son will live.” So he and all his household believed. " John 6:69 - "We believe and know that you are the Holy One of God." John 10:38 - " But if I do it, even though you do not believe me, believe the miracles, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me, and I in the Father." John 17:8 - "For I gave them the words you gave me and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me." 1 Cor. 1:21 - "For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe." 1 John 4:16 - "And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him." ('Rely' is the Greek word for 'believe') In most of these verses, 'believing' and 'knowing' are synonymous terms. I hope this helps! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
