3 | Any elders in Corinth? | 1 Cor 1:1 | Thomas8 | 206102
Hi Steve, Any ideas why there are no elders? Considering the problems in Corinth how would they have affected the situation? Was Corinthians written before the establishment of elderships? Any speculation invited. We might not know but I'm certainly wondering about this. |

4 | Any elders in Corinth? | 1 Cor 1:1 | srbaegon | 206181
Hello Thomas8, My first question back: Why do you assume there were no elders? Paul and Barnabas appointed elders on the first missionary journey, so that was already an established practice. I think that no elders were mentioned is because the whole church was in disarray. Paul wanted to condemn the entire lot of them for their conduct. But I could be wrong. Steve |

5 | Any elders in Corinth? | 1 Cor 1:1 | Thomas8 | 206183
I ponder why Paul doesn't mention them. How does he handle the mess in Galatia? Does he address elders there? Any information on how Paul notes them anywhere would be appreciated. Thank you for your help. (I'm wondering that the church being in disarray Paul might start by chastising the elders - and that, perhaps, they had caused the divisions... but I do not see a bit of that, so far) |

Hi, Sorry for taking so long to respond. Paul did not directly address the elders in Galatia either. He does mention "you who are spiritual," so there must have been mature Christians. I can see why you would question Paul not chastising the elders first. I can only assume that since they were acting as badly as the rest, he had to address them all as being childish. But I am open to correction on that. Steve |
