Greetings Owl90, You ask: "Ok so why are there four gospels instead of just one?" Actually, there is just one "Gospel"! :-) What is the gospel? 1 Corinthians 15:3-5 tells us: "For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve." [ESV] The "gospel," according to this passage, has four parts: (1) man is a sinner; (2) Christ is the Savior; (3) Christ died as man's substitute; and (4) Christ rose from the dead. This is the uniform gospel that is presented to us throughout the New Testament, is the same gospel that Paul and the other Apostles preached, and is the same gospel that we too must preach today. Blessings to you, Makarios |
