What are the writers speaking about when they tell the women to be silent in churches? It's a known fact that women were the first to proclaim the gospel.
2 | Why should women be silent in churches? | 1 Cor 14:34 | EdB | 58254
I think if you read the context of this passage and the passage in 1 Tim 2:11 you will see the writer is not trying to stifle women but rather to admonish them to be careful in public not to appear out of submission to their husbands. Men are to be the priest of the family, if a woman asked a question about something that the husband should have taught the family the husband would appear to have not done his duty. The wife could have asked this for two reasons one she didn’t know or two to make her husband look bad. Either case the husband would have lost face. I think Paul rather than telling women to be silent, because they have nothing to say is rather saying be careful what you ask. It is better to ask at home where is no chance of appearing to be out of submission to your husband or embarrassing your husband. EdB |
