I love this question. Without a doubt it is an Angel (gk angelos) of Satan. If you look at the context of 2 Cor and especially chps 10-12 you must come to the undeniable conclusion that it is a the false apostles and false brethren that follow Paul around inciting the Jews to persecute Paul. See Acts 13:44-45,50, 14:19-20,15:1-2, And Also look at Matt 27:17-18. It was a messenger sent to stir up the religious folk to ENVY. There is absolutely NO evidence to support the erroneous dotrine that it was an eye disease. Gal 1 and 6 are not sufficient. Either contextually or circumstancially. See 2 Tim 3:11 Nor can Pauls thorn be some disease that God refused to heal him of because "Out of them all the Lord delivered me!" Thorn in the flesh is a Hebrew Idiom, meaning in our day and culture A PAIN IN THE NECK. If I said Satan was a pain in the neck you wouldn't think that I had neck problems would you? See Num 33:25, Josh 23:13, and Judges 2:3 |
