'Anointed' in the New Testament 'If any individual Christian is to be considered anointed, then so every Christian must be as well. For this is the only sense in which the term is used (apart from Christ) in the New Testament: "You [referring to all believers] have an anointing from the Holy One" (1 John 2:20, NIV). Thus, no believer can justifiably claim any special status as God's "untouchable anointed" over other believers.' (Source: www.equip.org) NASB 1 John 2:20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all know. AMPLIFIED 1 John 2:20 But you have been anointed by [you hold a sacred appointment from, you have been given an unction from] the Holy One, and you all know [the Truth] or you know all things. kalos, Good to have you back brother. You and Hank presented this subject very well. With Acts 2:38 in mind,I have a hard time understanding why folks talk about repeated fillings of the Holy Spirit. Since God has already given us all that we need to carry out His call on our lives. 2 Peter 1:3, 2 Timothy 3:16,17, Matthew 28:18-20. In Him, lionheart |

Lionheart, Thanks for the welcome back. It's good to be back, my brother. Ephesians 5:18 (ESV) And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, If there is one and only one filling with the Spirit and no repeated fillings, then why does Eph. 5:18 command believers to be filled with the Spirit? I.e., if we were already filled with the Spirit, why the command to be filled with the Spirit? My understanding is that there is but one baptism with (by,in) the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 12:13 ), but many fillings. In a day or two I'll try to post more information (i.e., supporting Scriptural evidence) to back up my assertion. Grace to you, Kalos |
