Dear Forumites, 1) Does Paul ever allude to the Gospels themselves? 2) Were there any Gospels written or extant that Paul could have consulted for his epistles? 3) If so, which? 4) If not, what could have been his primary NT sources? Colin |

2 | Did Paul have a gospel account? | 1 Cor 11:23 | Emmaus | 99007 | ||
Colin, Paul refers to "the Gospel" but not any particular Evangeslist's gospel. He seems to indicate that he received some knowledge from the Lord Himself as in 1 Cor 11:23. I think we also assume he heard "the Gospel" from Ananias (Acts 9) and the twelve (Acts 9 and 15)whom he also mentions in 1 Cor 15. It is generally thought that Pauls's Epistles are the earliest written New Testament Scriptures, although Luke (his companion), Matthew and Mark could not have been written down much later. John's is considered the last gospel written. Emmaus |
