hotpotato, I suppose it depends on what Church you belong to and how they view communion. The eastren Orthodox and the Catholic Church do have rules of fasting before reciving Holy Communion. When I was a child it was fasting from all food and drink from midnight until Holy Communio, which may have explained the early hour of some Masses. After Mass you had break-fast. Now it is a fast of at least one hour in the Catholic Church in America. Here is the Catechism paragraph on the subject. "To prepare for worthy reception of this sacrament, the faithful should observe the fast required in their Church. Bodily demeanor (gestures, clothing) ought to convey the respect, solemnity, and joy of this moment when Christ becomes our guest." Emmaus |
