1 | Sober thoughts on God's faithfulness... | 1 Cor 10:13 | gagnon | 24733
Many praises have been sung about the faithfulness of God. God's faithfulness is certainly a positive quality. But did you ever consider that because God is faithful, we have absolutely no excuse for our sin? I Corinthians 10:13 says that God is faithful to not allow us to be tempted beyond what we can bear, but will provide us an alternate route to that of sin. God's faithfulness means we have no excuses to offer for our sin. It's good to praise God for His positive characteristics. It is also good to realize His characteristics require us live by a certain standard.

You write: "I Corinthians 10:13 SAYS that God . . . will provide us an alternate route to that of sin" (emphasis added). Which translation of the Bible *SAYS* "AN ALTERNATE ROUTE TO THAT OF SIN" in 1 Cor. 10:13? 1 Cor 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide *the way of escape* also, so that you will be able to endure it. (NASB, emphasis added.) 1 Cor 10:13 For no temptation (no trial regarded as enticing to sin), [no matter how it comes or where it leads] has overtaken you and laid hold on you that is not common to man [that is, no temptation or trial has come to you that is beyond human resistance and that is not adjusted and adapted and belonging to human experience, and such as man can bear]. But God is faithful [to His Word and to His compassionate nature], and He [can be trusted] not to let you be tempted and tried and assayed beyond your ability and strength of resistance and power to endure, but with the temptation He will [always] also provide *the way out* (the means of escape to a landing place), that you may be capable and strong and powerful to bear up under it patiently. (Amplified, emphasis added.) |
