Hi, Monica! This verse continues the discussion started in verse 1. Paul is further defining what he means by "weak in the faith." He is saying that a believer who has matured a bit knows that righteousness is not based in what one does, especially not what one eats. Whereas someone who has a poor understanding of the faith thinks that what one eats has an effect on how one is accepted by God. (The Jewish Essenes were vegetarians, as were the Greek Pythagoreans.) That kind of view shows a very shallow understanding of grace (one of the keys to understanding Romans).
