1 | Two House Teaching--T or F? | Acts 4:10 | kalos | 166960
Two House Teaching--T or F? [Defined below is the "Two House Teaching" or "Two House Movement". Do you agree or disagree with this teaching? Why or why not? I'm not testing anyone with this question. I really want to know; what do you all believe about this subject? --Kalos] 'The "Two House Movement" claims that many Gentile Christians, especially in Western Europe and America, are in reality descendants of the Ten Lost Tribes of the Northern Kingdom of Israel (the house of Israel), and that now is the prophesied time for them to accept their true identity and join together with their brothers the Jews (the house of Judah) through observance of the Law of Moses, and in this way to bring the Jews to belief in Messiah Jesus. This teaching has several features in common with Anglo-Israelism, which is considered a cult by most Christian groups. '...the real issue here, and what separates the two house teaching from other Christian groups, is their conviction that Gentile Christians (or what they prefer to call Ephraimites or Israelites) are required to obey the Law of Moses in some way.' 2 | Two House Teaching--T or F? | Acts 4:10 | mark d seyler | 166961
Hi Kalos, For myself, I would say "False Teaching". The latter part of 2 Chronicles tells us the story of the fall of the Northern Kingdom, fron whence those 10 lost tribes were to have come, but also tells us that the faithful went south, to the Southern Kingdom, and in 31:6 "And the people of Israel and Judah who lived in the cities of Judah" refers to those that had made a permanent move. When we come to the New Testament, we find several people addressing those they call "all of Israel", such as: Act 2:36 Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified." Act 4:10 let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead--by him this man is standing before you well. Act 13:24 Before his coming, John had proclaimed a baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel. How could John had proclaimed a baptism to all of Israel if the lions share were "lost"? Luke 2:36 And there was a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. Anna retained her identity with the tribe of Asher. Paul retained his tribal identity as a Benjimite. Zechariah knew he was of Levi. I also think the New Testament teaches that national identities are removed as we come into the church, as the Bible defines church. Col 3:11 Here there is not Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free; but Christ is all, and in all. To say that Christians of Jewish origin should now separate themselves from Christians of gentile origin, and return to a Jewish identity seems to me the same sort of thing as leaving grace to return to the Law, and beyond that, goes contrary to the teaching that our new identity is in Him. Gal 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. So these are my thoughts. Not to mention the practial consideration. How would these "lost tribes" know who they are? Love in Christ, Mark |
