This is a list of many lands from which Jews came to the festivals in Jerusalem. Parathians: Inhabitants of Parthia, a region southeast of the Caspian Sea and corresponding to Modern Khorasan (northeast Iran). Medes: An Indoaryan people living in the mountains of Iran. Elamites: Inhabitants of southwest Iran. Mesopotamia: The region between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, roughly equivalant to modern Iraq and northeastern Syria. Judea: The wilderness of Judea where John the Baptist preached was the barren region between the central hill country and the Dead Sea and between Jerusalem and Hebron. Cappadocia: A region in eastern Asia Minor bounded by Galatia and Lycaonia on the west, Pontus on the north, Armenia on the east and Cilicia and the Taurus mountains on the north. Pontus: A region in northeastern Asia Minor along the Black Sea. I am not sure what the languages were. (Information from Eerdmans Bible Dictionary). prayon |
