Need to? No. But here are Scriptures that say a little of what speaking in tongues does or is. Acts 2:11 "Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God." (KJV) Speak the wonderful works of God. Acts 10:46 "For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God." (KJV) Definition of "magnify": 1) to make great, to magnify; metaphorically, to make conspicuous 2) to deem or to declare great to esteem highly, to extol, to laud, to celebrate 3) to get glory and praise Though the person doing the speaking in tongues does not understand what is being said it is speaking the wonderful works of God and magnifying Him. |
