1 | What is so significant about Malta? | Acts 28:1 | ron_runsvold | 13307
In Acts 27:26, Paul says that they must land on a "certain island." Why is that? What was so special about Malta vs. any other island? Is there a significance to the people there or maybe a definition for the name of the place that I have missed?

Ron. In Acts 27:26, Paul was not specific because God didn't tell him or he knew but didn't say. It is interesting to see the variety of translations of this phrase. I wonder which are right. Malta was chosen by God. There were 276 people (27:37), so they needed an island large enough to handle them, plus a safe way to shore and another ship to take them on to Rome. I don't think there was another island to meet their needs. The people were hospitible (28:2) ... I'm not sure if that was the norm in that area. Plus, they provided for them well, as they sailed on (vs 10). I hope I have answered your questions, Steve Melite (Strong's 3194) is the name in Greek, meaning honey |
