2 | Who were the women at Passover :Acts1:14 | Acts 1:14 | Makarios | 173614 | ||
Greetings Miss Leslie! Acts 1:14 "These all with one mind were continually devoting themselves to prayer, along with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers." [NASB] Who were the women? My Ryrie Study Bible has a footnote at this verse, referring back to Luke 8:2-3: "and also some women who had been healed of evil spirits and sicknesses: Mary who was called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out, and Joanna the wife of Chuza, Herod's steward, and Susanna, and many others who were contributing to their support out of their private means." So, here at least are a few of the women who helped to finance Christ's ministry. A few more of the women are mentioned in Matthew 27:55: Mary Magdalene (again), Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of the sons of Zebedee. Salome is mentioned in Mark 15:40. From John 19:25 we learn that Mary, the wife of Clopas, is also the cousin of Mary, the mother of Jesus. There are many "Marys" in the New Testament: 1) Mary, the mother of Jesus (Luke 1:27) 2) Mary, the mother of James and wife of Alphaeus, or Clopas (Luke 6:15; John 19:25)- cousin of Mary, the mother of Jesus 3) Mary, the sister of Martha and Lazarus (Luke 10:39) 4) Mary Magdalene (Luke 8:2) 5) Mary, the mother of John Mark (Acts 12:12) 6) Mary, a Christian woman in Rome (Romans 16:6) I hope that this helps! Blessings to you, Makarios |
