2 | What does worshipper of God mean? | Acts 16:14 | Searcher56 | 222431 | ||
Scripture ... Acts 13:43, 13:50, 16:14, 17:4, 17:17, 18:7, 18:13, 19:27 ... The word for worshiper is sebomai, which in all 8 times in Acts, appear to be non-Jews. However, in Matthew 15:9 and Mark 7:7 I believe it refers to Jews ... whose heart is not Jewish. In Acts 10:2 Cornelius is a devout man and one who feared God with all his household ... it doesn't have sebomai. There are other words for worship, including the main one in the Greek, proskuneo ... to fall upon the knees and touch the ground with the forehead as an expression of profound reverence. Matthew 15:9 and Mark 7:7 is prophecy found it Isaiah 29:13, where the word is yare. The main Hebrew word for worship is shachah. I studied the word worship for 6 months. As with the translations, I think it is important to look at the orginal, since words like worship may have multiple meanings in the orginal. That was a great question ... stay ask more and share your thoughts, Searcher |
