1 | Is believing the same as knowing? | Acts 15:11 | MarieH | 65693
What is the difference in saying you believe in Jesus Christ dying for our sins and that He lives vs saying I know Jesus Christ died and is now living. I have said "I believe without a doubt because I have chosen to believe" My daughter says she knows that Jesus Christ died. My daughter says because I do not know that I am an unbeliever. My reason for not using "I know" is because I am not an eyewitness although I believe with my heart that it happened. I just believe that it happened and I believe the whole Bible to be the words of GOD. What is the differenc? Please explain that to me. Thank you very much.

Hi MarieH The scripture that your daughter might be using or heard about may be the following: 1 John 2:3-5 Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. 4He who says, "I know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. The is a big difference in the words know and believe for me, but because of the one the other happens. If you are married, you believe that your husband is faithfull (when you can not see what he is doing), but you also know him, what he likes and what he doesn't. To believe Heb 11 and as you said He died for us and He lives. Then to know Him means that you talk to Him i.e. have a relationship with Him, you know what He wants. To have a teachable spirit is vey important, if you cut with the sword(Bible) it cuts back aswell. It will not help to argue with your daugter, but pray FOR her and WITH her that she might see the truth throught the Word. Borgain Rom 8:16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God |
