1 | Down to the meat of scripture. | John 9:31 | EdB | 94046
George I think the man was speaking from Jewish prejudice. The Jews of the time believed if you were born blind your parents were sinners, if something bad happened to you were in sin and if anything good happened you were of God. This is clearly seen in Job and Job’s friends accusing him of unrepented sin. The first part of what he said we know is wrong, God does hear sinners when they pray for salvation. We also know the second part to be correct God hears our prayers. However that does not mean God always answers our prayers the way we think He should. God will make all things work to our good and to His Glory. God is running things not us or our prayers. That all said I believe the man spoke true in the fact he was saying surely Jesus is of God. As he stated up to this point a miracle so great has never been done by anyone except God. I hope this answers your question EdB |

2 | Truth, understandin or Faith in the word | John 9:31 | GeorJoy | 94080
I know what you are saying Ed, but do you not think that the verse could be meant literally, "God heareth not sinners," and as I said earlier that the sinner who is sincerely repentant, and coming to Jesus for salvation is no longer a sinner in the moment prior to salvation, Or that there is another truth of which we are not aware? I'm sure you agree with me when I say that I am leary of those, (myself included) when we tend to label a bible author as "prejudice." For many have said that Paul was a (I couldn't spell this word if my life depended on it, so I will put it phonetically) Sho-vin-ist. If scripture isn't true to the letter, then it is untrue in all..... I will admit that there is a lot therein that I simply do not understand. But I will refrain from calling an apple an orange, if I don't know the particular variety of apples in question. George |

George Concerning John 9:31 which the question revolved around I found a couple of interesting cross reference verses. Compare the following OT verses with the NT verse 9:31. Wouldn't you agree that these OT verses possibly help us better understand what was said in John 9:31: John 9:31 Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth. Psalm 66:18 If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me: Jer. 5:25 Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withholden good things from you Isaiah 59:2 But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear Prov. 15:29 The LORD is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous. Micah 3:4 Then shall they cry unto the LORD, but he will not hear them: he will even hide his face from them at that time, as they have behaved themselves ill in their doings Grace be to you New Creature |
