1 | Does Satan Really Exist? | John 8:44 | drbloor | 166060
Does 'Satan' Really Exist? If 'Satan' is an actual person, how can the parallel accounts of Davids numbering of Israel be explained: 1 Chronicles 21:1 "And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel." 24:1 "And again the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them to say, Go, number Israel and Judah." If 'Satan' is an actual person, scripture would here indicate that 'Satan' is God. How is this possible? Secondly, if you believe that the 'war in heaven' of Revelation 12 is a literal war and not symbolic, how can it be understood in terms of it's correct chronological context: Revelation 1:1 "The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass." This means that the 'war in heaven' must occur some time after the giving of The Revelation - it must "shortly come to pass." This would place it historically some time after circa 70AD. In other words, if you believe that 'Satan' is a fallen angel, then you must also believe that he did not become a fallen angel until after the whole of The Bible had been written, thus preventing the 'Satan' of Revelation 12 from being the 'Satan' of the rest of The Bible. Okay, and thanks. Dr. B. |

2 | Does Satan Really Exist? | John 8:44 | BradK | 166061
Dear Dr. B, I would ask what leads you to make such an inquiry? Do you believe that Jesus exists and that He is our Lord and Savior? Much could be said and there is abundant evidence from scripture that he (satan) does exist. Why would our Lord make such a rebuke as John 8:44 if satan were not real? "You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies." There are numerous attributes given to satan: "1. He was named Lucifer before his fall. Isa. 14:12 2. He was in Eden. Ezek. 28:13 3. He was the anointed cherub of God. Ezek. 28:14 4. He was adorned with precious stones. Ezek. 28:13 5. He possessed great musical ability. Ezek. 28:13 6. He was the perfection of wisdom and beauty. Ezek. 28:12 7. He fell through pride. Ezek. 28:17 8. He attempted to steal God’s throne. Isa. 14:13 9. He wanted to be like God. Isa. 14:14 10. He possesses intelligence. 2 Cor. 2:11; 11:3 11. He possesses memory. Matt. 4:6 12. He possesses a will. 2 Tim. 2:26 13. He possesses desire. Luke 22:31 14. He possesses pride. 1 Tim. 3:6 15. He possesses wrath. Rev. 12:12 16. He possesses great organizational ability. 1 Tim. 4:1; Rev. 2:9, 24 [Willmington, H. L. Willmington's Book of Bible Lists.] Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |
