"Then who can be saved?" Jesus looked at them and said, "With man it is impossible, but not with God. For all things are possible with God." Mark 10:26-27 "If any man doth ascribe of salvation, even the very least, to the free will of man, he knoweth nothing of grace, and he hath not learnt Jesus Christ aright." --Martin Luther "The will is not destroyed but rather repaired by grace." --John Calvin "God’s predetermination of second causes is that effectual working of his, according to his eternal purpose, whereby though some agents, as the wills of men, are causes most free and indefinite, or unlimited lords of their own actions, in respect of their internal principle of operation (that is, their own nature), [they] are yet all, in respect of his decree, and by his powerful working, determined to this or that effect in particular; not that they are compelled to do this, or hindered from doing that, but are inclined and disposed to do this or that, according to their proper manner of working, that is, most freely" --John Owen "Man is nothing: he hath a free will to go to hell, but none to go to heaven, till God worketh in him to will and to do his good pleasure" --George Whitefield "Free will carried many a soul to hell, but never a soul to heaven." --Charles H. Spurgeon "No wonder Martin Luther wrote a book entitled The Bondage of the Will which he considered one of his most important treatises. The will is in the chains of an evil human nature. You who extol the free will as a great force are clinging to a root of pride. Man, as fallen in sin, is utterly helpless and hopeless. The will of man offers no hope. It was the will choosing the forbidden fruit that brought us into misery. The powerful grace of God alone offers deliverance. Cast yourself upon God’s mercy for salvation. Ask for the Spirit of Grace that He may create a new spirit within you." --Walter Chantry "If the final decision for the salvation of fallen sinners were left in the hands of fallen sinners, we would despair all hope that anyone would be saved." --R. C. Sproul |

Within the last hour our 14 year old daughter exclaimed, "I wish I didn't have free-will; I wish we could be like God's remote controlled toys." To which I responded, "Oh but we can, we just need to tune into HIS frequency!" Jesus said, "apart from Me, you can do nothing." John 15:5 Blessings, and thanks for these great quotes! mommapbs |

Greetings Hank - please accept my humble apology; I am sorry for being AWOL! We went on a family "cruise" to Lake Huron (I really did try to log on with my wireless, but found no "hot spots" there!) I am only home for a brief spell as our second son is being married over Labor Day. I'll update my user profile so you can grant me "permission" to go this time! I always check to see what the Forum is up to and who has joined in my absence. I will be reading in the background - (as I am always blessed here by something:) and will be obedient to post as prompted. Thanks for the kind welcome back - your notice of my absence is like a holy hug from God today! In Christ, mommapbs Mt 23:9 to your John 6:66! :-) |
