1 | Quick responding note of election | John 3:16 | Mickodemus | 89972
Brother Tim, Just a quick note and I will get off the subject for now, until someone else brings it up. (which probably wont be long ;) You still say that we assume what the scripture says, but, when you read Roman 8 and 9 you can plainly see that elect means one predestined by God before time began, and if you are written in the Lambs book of life you were there before you were born. God started that Spirit of Salvation within you and The Holy Spirit makes us His sons and testifying so. Rom 8:14-20 (CEV)reads: "Only those people who are led by God's Spirit are his children. God's Spirit doesn't make us slaves who are afraid of him. Instead, we become his children and call him our Father. God's Spirit makes us sure that we are his children. His Spirit lets us know that together with Christ we will be given what God has promised. We will also share in the glory of Christ, because we have suffered with him. I am sure that what we are suffering now cannot compare with the glory that will be shown to us. In fact, all creation is eagerly waiting for God to show who his children are. Meanwhile, creation is confused, but not because it wants to be confused. God made it this way in the hope that creation would be set free from decay and would share in the glorious freedom of his children." You see? God made it that way to be Predestined is not a choice, you are led by the Spirit to believe and the Spirit is the one that makes you cry Abba, Father. We in our unrighteousness cannot, Only when we are washed in the Blood of Christ can we Hear and see the Truth of God's law (scriptures). Just like Nickodemus asked Christ in John, "How can a man enter back in his mothers womb to be BORN AGAIN? Baby's don't have a choice in the matter. Lazurus had no choice in comming out of the grave. It was the drawing and the re-birth of the Holy Spirit. We can do nothing, not even accept the things of the Father, unless given to us by His mercy and grace. Remember....The Potter and the Clay. 2 | Quick responding note of election | John 3:16 | Morant61 | 89977
Greetings Mike! I have posted many times on my views of Rom. 9-11. I choose to do a 60 page independent study course on election in Rom. 9-11 while I was in college. I mention this not to brag, but simply to highlight that this topic is not something which I have just studied casually. Here is the thumbnail version of my findings. Election refers to God's eternal purpose to save all, both Jew and Gentile. We become part of the elect by faith. Rom. 9 answers the complaint of the Jew about Gentiles coming to faith by affirming God's right to have mercy on whomever He chooses. Rom. 10 details the process, faith comes through hearing. Rom. 11 demonstrates that God's hardening of Israel was so that God might have mercy on all, and even those whom He has hardened can be grafted back in again in they do not persist in their unbelief. If you would like to read them, you can do a search. But, it is sufficent to note for now that there is another legitimate way of interpreting Rom. 9-11 - not as an expression of the limitation of God's mercy, but as an expression of the expansion of God's mercy (11:32).
