1 | Can a priest forgive sins? | John 20:23 | JMR | 7538
In John 20:21-23, it appears to me that Jesus gave the authority to forgive sins to men acting in His name. Also, in 2 Corinthians 5:18-20, it appears that this refers to the forgiveness of sins granted by Christ thru his ministers. St. Peter received from Christ this binding and loosing authority separately from and before the other disciples (see Matt 16:18,19 and Matt 18:18). |

To me Christ has given the Church keys to the Kingdom. I take these verses just like Jesus said them, we can tell them the way and we know in the end it is God who forgives but we play a very important part in their decision. 2 Cor says God has given us the ministry of reconciliation. Please read James 5:14-15. God gives us commands and we can obey or not, that is our choice. Jim
