1 | Retain or forgive sins? | John 20:22 | DocTrinsograce | 204861 | ||
Dear Colin, Well, then, if forgiveness is triggered by the church, then it violates all the other Scriptures that speak to the contrary, leaving us with an impotent God and a sovereign church. If forgiveness rests solely with God, all the church forgiving in the world totals up to zilch. The world is full of teachers who want to get rid of "alone" and replace it with "plus." It is a hallmark of heterodoxy. One of the doctrines of sola Scriptura is the sufficiency of the Word (no plus). Therefore, I'll just continue to rest in the atonement of Christ alone (no plus), through faith alone (no plus), by grace alone (no plus), to the glory of God alone (no plus). In Him, Doc |

Doc, Of course "church triggered" forgiveness yields zilch; ditto Christ "plus", as you say. The verses in question don't imply either case, so I'll rest mine. Colin |
