1 | Retain or forgive sins? | John 20:22 | Tamara Brewington | 204515 | ||
John 20:21-23 What are these verses talking about? Does this mean that the apostles were being given the power by the Holy Spirit to retain or forgive sins like the Catholic priests believe? And if not what does it mean that they were to retain or forgive sins? And how does this gell with the fact that a person can ask Jesus for forgiveness of any sin except the greatest sin? A bunch of questions I know but these verses kinda shook me... God Bless hat lady |

Hi Tamara: In light of these scriptures, how are they to be interpreted? In relation to your question. These are just food for thought. We cannot dismiss them, as never having been said. Matthew 6:12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. Luke 11:4 And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. James 5:15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Matthew 18:21 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Matthew 18:22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven. Luke 17:4 And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him. Mark 11:25 And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins." Luke 17:3 So watch yourselves. "If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him. Acts 10:43 All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name." 2 Corinthians 2:10 If you forgive anyone, I also forgive him. And what I have forgiven—if there was anything to forgive—I have forgiven in the sight of Christ for your sake, Love in Christ Jim |
