Hi justme, The specific chapter and verse that I would lead you to is a reference that is in the margin of my study bible, Genesis 28:12. It doesn't relate where Nathanael saw the angels ascending and descending on the Son of God, but it does relate where the angels of God were ascending and descending on a ladder that "was set on the earth with its top reaching to heaven." Here we have a picture, don't you think, of Jesus being the Way to heaven? Genesis 28:12,13, "And he had a dream, and behold, a ladder was set on the earth with its top reaching to heaven; and behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. And behold, the Lord stood above it [margin, Or, beside him] and said, "I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God/ of Isaac; the land on which you lie, I will give to you and to your descendants." I can visualize Nathanael with Jesus [beside him], telling him "I am the Lord". Nathanael had already given the testimony "Rabbi, You are the Son of God; You are the King of Israel." John 1:48b, "Before Phillip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you." Compare with Micah 4:4, "And each of them will sit under his vine And under his fig tree, With no one to make them afraid, For the mouth of the Lord of hosts has spoken." Here is what William Barclay writes in "The Daily Study Bible Series" for John 1:43-51, page 93. "To the Jews the fig-tree always stood for peace. Their idea of peace was when a man could be undisturbed under his own vine and his own fig-tree (cp. 1 Kings 4:25; Micah 4:4). Further, the fig tree was leafy and shady and it was the custom to sit and meditate under the roof of its branches. No doubt that was what Nathanael had been doing; and no doubt as he sat under the fig-tree he had prayed for the day when God's Chosen One should come. No doubt he had been meditating on the promises of God. And now he felt that Jesus had seen into the very depths of his heart." Continuing later, "He quoted the old story of Jacob at Bethel who had seen the golden ladder leading up to heaven (Genesis 28:12,13). It was as if Jesus said, "Nathanael, I can do far more than read your heart. I can be for you and for all men the way, the ladder that leads to heaven." It is through Jesus and Jesus alone that the souls of men can mount the ladder which leads to heaven." End of quote. I could talk about another incident for comparison. I had taken note of it in my bible at sometime in recent years. John 9:17 From the heart, Ray |

Dear Brother Ray: Thank you as you were the only one who did not say scripture does not record this event any where. Well scripture does not contradict its self. I think you have as good an idea as I have thought just wanted to see if anyone else had ever wondered as I have. Thanks for you time. agape, justme |
