Hi exogm, This sounds right except that it implies equality with Jesus. Matthew 5:14 says that we are the light of the world but a few verses before that we learned that the peacemakers shall be called the sons of God. So we are sons and light, but Jesus is the Son of God and the Light of the world. John 1:4 I look at a little differently than both the NASB and Amplified above. I have Life and light penciled in my personal copy which reads, "In Him was Life, and the Life was the light of men." This light shines in the darkness and is called an it; for that reason I have light in lower case. The following verses talk about the Light and John's witness for Him. So for verse nine I would say "That Light was the true Light which, coming into the world, enlightens every man." So our witnessing is important for we are indeed being watched by the world. But we let our light and our good deeds shine before men so that we glorify our Father who is in heaven. Ephesians 2:10, "For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them." From the heart, Ray |
