inheavenseyes: Question (long): "Does law , faith , obedience has something to do with God's grace?" An answer (short): "Grace is...constantly set in contrast to LAW." An answer (long): John 1:17 For the LAW was given by Moses, but GRACE and truth came by Jesus Christ. 'GRACE. Summary: '(1) GRACE is "the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man . . . not by works of righteousness which we have done" (Titus 3:4,5). 'It is, therefore, constantly set in contrast to LAW, under which God demands righteousness from man, as, under GRACE, he gives righteousness to man (Romans 3:21,22; 8:4; Phil. 3:9). LAW is connected with Moses and works; GRACE with Christ and FAITH (John 1:17; Romans 10:4-10). LAW blesses the good; GRACE saves the bad (Exodus 19:5; Ephesians 2:1-9). LAW demands that blessings be earned; GRACE is a free gift (Deuteronomy 28:1-6; Ephesians 2:8; Romans 4:4,5' (http://bible.crosswalk.com/Commentaries/ScofieldReferenceNotes/). (Emphasis added.) inheavenseyes: Q: "is it okay then to set aside the law since God's grace is whether you're good or bad it depends upon Him if He bestows us His grace?" A: AMPLIFIED Romans 3:31 Do we then by [this] faith make the Law of no effect, overthrow it or make it a dead letter? Certainly not! On the contrary, we confirm and establish and uphold the Law. Matthew 5:17-20 Amplified Bible (AMP) 17 Do not think that I have come to do away with or undo the Law or the Prophets; I have come not to do away with or undo but to complete and fulfill them. 18 For truly I tell you, until the sky and earth pass away and perish, not one smallest letter nor one little hook [identifying certain Hebrew letters] will pass from the Law until all things [it foreshadows] are accomplished. 19 Whoever then breaks or does away with or relaxes one of the least [important] of these commandments and teaches men so shall be called least [important] in the kingdom of heaven, but he who practices them and teaches others to do so shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I tell you, unless your righteousness (your uprightness and your right standing with God) is more than that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Q: And what about faith, what is the role in God's grace? A: AMPLIFIED Romans 3:28 For we hold that a man is justified and made upright by faith independent of and distinctly apart from good deeds (works of the Law). [The observance of the Law has nothing to do with justification.] AMPLIFIED Romans 4:3 For what does the Scripture say? Abraham believed in (trusted in) God, and it was credited to his account as righteousness (right living and right standing with God). [Gen. 15:6.] Ephesians 2:8-10 Amplified Bible 8 For it is by free grace (God's unmerited favor) that you are saved (delivered from judgment and made partakers of Christ's salvation) through [your] faith. And this [salvation] is not of yourselves [of your own doing, it came not through your own striving], but it is the gift of God; 9 Not because of works [not the fulfillment of the Law's demands], lest any man should boast. [It is not the result of what anyone can possibly do, so no one can pride himself in it or take glory to himself.] 10 For we are God's [own] handiwork (His workmanship), recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew] that we may do those good works which God predestined (planned beforehand) for us [taking paths which He prepared ahead of time], that we should walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us to live]. Q: Moreover, [do the] disobedient [have] any place in God's kingdom? A: 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 Amplified Bible 9 Do you not know that the unrighteous and the wrongdoers will not inherit or have any share in the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived (misled): neither the impure and immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor those who participate in homosexuality, 10 Nor cheats (swindlers and thieves), nor greedy graspers, nor drunkards, nor foulmouthed revilers and slanderers, nor extortioners and robbers will inherit or have any share in the kingdom of God. 1 John 3:9-10 Amplified Bible 9 No one born (begotten) of God [deliberately, knowingly, and habitually] practices sin, for God's nature abides in him [His principle of life, the divine sperm, remains permanently within him]; and he cannot practice sinning because he is born (begotten) of God. 10 By this it is made clear who take their nature from God and are His children and who take their nature from the devil and are his children: no one who does not practice righteousness [who does not conform to God's will in purpose, thought, and action] is of God; neither is anyone who does not love his brother (his fellow believer in Christ). ------------- 'Obedient living is not one of the optional tracks given for believers to walk. All true believers are called to a life of obedience. Jesus taught that every branch that abides in Him bears fruit (John 15:1-8). Paul wrote that believers "are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them" (Ephesians 2:10). That speaks of obedience. We are saved unto the obedience of faith (see 1 Peter 1:2). 'How can we know our faith is genuine? Examine your life in the light of God's Word. Do you see these characteristics in your life? Do you have a love for God, hatred for sin, humility, devotion to God's glory, a pattern of personal and private prayer, selfless love, separation from the world, the evidence of spiritual growth and obedience. These are the real evidences of genuine saving faith' (http://www.gty.org/IssuesandAnswers/archive/genuinefaith.htm). ------------- Obedience is the result, not the cause of genuine saving faith.
