1 | How do I tell if she is Christian? | John 1:17 | keliy | 221309
I have a girlfriend who says she is a Christian. I told her when we first met that I could not date her because she was not a christian. But, since she was 'after me', she retorted, "How do You know that I am not a christian? I was raised as a Baptist" So I thought I would give her a chance. We began to date, and now it has been two years. She has helped me much and I likewise, so we mainly get along good, but she does not act like a christian, such as she does not go to church with me as often as she should but has worldly excuses and complains about the sevice (during the service) when we go do to church together. (this can be embarrassing) She will not discuss much biblical issues with me either. I say she is going to church for the wrong reasons, and am about to break off with her. But I think that I would be doing more harm to God's Kingdom by not bringing her to church when able. My other thoughts are that the enemy is trying to keep me away from church and using her to do it. I have in fact missed more days since we have been together because of issues that surround her. She does seem to be growing spiritually, (albeit slightly) but sometimes she shows that there has been no progress made at all. Am I wrong for thinking this way? |

2 | How do I tell if she is Christian? | John 1:17 | DocTrinsograce | 221310
Dear keliy... I want to help, but I hardly no where to begin. I guess I'll just make some general points, lest I end up writing volumes... 1. Believers always manifest themselves by growing in love of God, love of the brethren, love the Word. They cannot help it. Consequently, they are known by their fruit over time. 2. Do not be unequally yoked with an unbeliever -- that's an explicit command. 3. Church services are not about evangelism. That can happen, but it isn't the point. Church is for those who have been transformed by the gospel and are being transformed by the gospel. 4. You cannot harm God's Kingdom. It something He is doing, and nothing can thwart it -- not man, angel, or demon. All of this could be -- and has been -- discussed further. Wisdom can only arise from the truth. If the foundations are not right, everything else will be wrong. In Him, Doc |

You both answered very beneficially ((o: I am going to take her through the parable of the talents when she is done with work tonight, and see how she reacts, without making any rash decisions. |

Dear Keliy, I couldn't help asking...are you having bible study together? or Are you trying to reflect your problems through the parable of the talents? The reason I ask is that I do not see how the parable of talents relates to your situation. Or might I have missed something? Anyway, as an outsider, I certainly do not know what really happens between you. You don't need to answer my questions :-) Shalom Azure |

6 | How do I tell if she is Christian? | John 1:17 | keliy | 221320
What I see in the parable is that when the servant with one talent buried it, he was saying, "I don't care about your money, I never wanted to be bothered with it. That is why I buried it to keep it safe. I did not care enough about you, my master, to care whether your money increased or not. The connection I see, is I am trying to find out whether she is concerned about God's Word, or just going through the motions. shalom, keliy |
