Hello wwblackson! John 19:28 is one of the seven cries that Jesus makes from the cross during His crucifixion. This particular cry where Jesus simply states, "I am thirsty" may possibly be a fulfillment of Psalm 69:21, but it is ultimately a statement describing the weakened physical state of Jesus, since He had lost a significant amount of blood. For more on the physical aspects of the crucifixion of Christ, please visit the following websites: http://kgnet.com/jesus/ http://www.ukans.edu/history/index/europe/ancient_rome/E/Roman/Texts/secondary/SMIGRA2A/Flagrum.html http://www.harpazo.net/crucify.html As for this statement, "I thirst", being the 'last' word of Christ, then I would beg to differ. Here are the seven cries from the cross that Jesus made during His crucifixion. "The Seven Cries From The Cross ************************************************** 1. "Father, forgive them.." Luke 23:34 2. "Today you shall be with Me.." Luke 23:43 3. "Woman, behold, your son!" John 19:26-27 4. "My God, My God.." Matt. 27:46-47; Mark 15:34-36 5. "I am thirsty." John 19:28 6. "It is finished." John 19:30 7. "Father, into Your hands.." Luke 23:46" (1) Blessings to you, Makarios (1) Ryrie Study Bible Expanded Edition, pg. 1718, (c)1995, The Moody Bible Institute of Chicago, Charles Caldwell Ryrie, Th.D., Ph.D. |
