1 | the SBF what can we do? | John 17:17 | justme | 242276
Study Bible Forum Members: I have a very serious concern for our forum. Over the years I have noticed the activity of the SBF dwindling down with very little activity. I have wondered why so many of those who were once very active are seldom posting any longer. I hope you too have pondered the same question. I have tried to think of ways that I can stimulate activity on the SBF. I came to a few points that I have noticed what might help. Sometimes we forget to welcome new visitors to the forum. At times we are quick to refer visitors to the SEARCH box rather than giving a personal response. I think this is less welcoming and a little lazy, the quick way out. I seldom refer to the SEARCH box. How often do we open a dialogue to some really hot topic listed some place we visited. The Christian Post is a good place to find some hot topics. Maybe bring up some issue with your denomination, or other religion. I feel we have a golden opportunity here to at least open the door for someone to question their self about their eternal destination. I watch WRETCHED on NRB tv at night. Then there is WAY OF THE MASTER with Ray Comfort that is a dymanic evangelist that teaches open street preaching that I have learned a lot from. this would be an interesting topic to dialogue as well. I find more information to talk about there. Lockman has been very kind to allow this forum to continue, and I sincerely feel they would be pleased to see more activity here. I wish we could have a space for prayer requests as well. I once belonged to a Christian forum that allowed all kinds of junk with restrictions only on people who were more fundamental in their theology. I was kicked off and that was very upsetting to me. We have guidelines and they are for the most part quite open to most. If anyone wants to email me go to my user info and I would be pleased to hear from you. I know I am an old fashion man, I turn 70 this month, but I want to think young and open. I would love to see the SBF become a beehive of activity. justme |

2 | the SBF what can we do? | John 17:17 | DocTrinsograce | 242277
Dear Justme, How about we pray about this? Our Lord Jesus Himself prayed about this. How wonderful to join with Him in His petition to the Father concerning Truth! In Him, Doc PS Remember that there are many more silent readers of the SBF, people who do not necessarily participate. Let us be praying for them as well. |

Doc: Perhaps some would say they have prayer for a long time already. I can't help but see how many were very regular in posting but are no longer here. I am deeply grieved that so many in the past who put so much into the SBF are gone. I remember Hank, and for many years spent hour upon hour into building this forum, I have been with this forum from 2000, others like EdB have been from the beginning, and so have others. I am deeply concerned for the SBF. One concern I have is we all knew who the moderator was when hank was moderator. Now it's something nobody cares to say. I wonder why? The final authority is sometimes who is the firmist or cuts the conversation when it gets too war. Sometimes issues need to be dialogued out for the Lords glory so we can see love at work. I am not ashamed to admit when I am wrong, or to say I am sorry, or even to say I admire someone. I am not ashamed to call for prayer as well. Why are prayer request not encouraged? I know this is a Bible Forum, but we get to know each other and it's nice to know others are joining us in prayer. Well at least I think so. I ask again what can be done to improve our SBF? justme |

4 | the SBF what can we do? | John 17:17 | DocTrinsograce | 242283
Hi, justme... I did not mean to disparage your question, or to imply that it was not an important one. As a believer I have come to understand the necessity of prayer in every endeavor. As Solomon put it, "Unless the LORD builds the house, They labor in vain who build it; Unless the LORD guards the city, The watchman keeps awake in vain." (Psalms 127:1) We are here about His work, His purpose, and His plan, His word. If the SBF is man's work, man's purpose, man's plan, or man's word, then it will fade. See Psalm 33:16-18. Our brother Hank knew these things very well, for it was about these things that I spoke to him in his final weeks. I am certain that he now knows them certainly than ever in this life. Our final conversation was about 2 Corinthians 1. See how that passage fits in the SBF effort? Nonetheless, do not assume that because there are few who post, that this is not something entirely under God's control. Our faith is rooted in things that are more certain than what we see, more concrete than what we feel, and more secure than what we know. Shall we demonstrate our confidence in the God we serve by petitioning Him to magnify Himself, even though we diminish? Shall we not evidence our hope by continuing even when our numbers are few? Hank even asserted to us once that the greatest battle of the believer was perseverance and endurance (post #60800). What is more, he affirmed a call to prayer (post #21177). Why shan't we do both? In Him, Doc |
